Got a chalice, but I don’t really know what’s carved on it. I suspect it’s Hawaiian or Tahitian, but it’ll work for now. I need a horn so badly.
Besides that I managed to find two candle holders and a bowl for herbs.
— For Loki
I haven’t had the funds to set up a proper altar, but I just spent some time thinking about things. It was a good night.
The difference between Asatru and Rokkatru. The short answer to this is that Asatru is ‘true to the Aesir’, in that you worship those of the Aesir, and Rokkatru is much the opposite. Rokkatru is the worship of the Jotnar, specifically those of Loki and his children by his lover Angrboda, Mimir, Ymir, Thiazi, Skadi, etc.
There is so much to say on the difference of these two, it’s difficult to keep track of. I’ll try to keep as accurate and simple as I can without rambling, as I tend to do. I am also learning so, pardon any error.
Asatru has always been the more well known of the Scandinavian religions since Viking times, and Rokkatru has always been sort of in the shade of it. A cultist gathering, worshipping etin that many had preferred to steer clear of. It was something practiced in secret gatherings and celebrated amongst a very, very, isolated group of believers or in solitude. As opposed to Asatru, those who met and celebrated through the streets, and drank and sang loudly, Rokkatru was quiet, and solemnly spoken of. One worshipped the gods and goddesses, not the giants. At least not openly. Today this is much more widely accepted, for many reasons, one being the sudden interest in Loki and the Norse in general, inspired by that of Marvel’s Thor. Thankfully, we are alive and have the luxury of living in a time when such a belief is a bit more out in the open, and celebrated. We don’t have to be afraid we’re going to be struck through the heart with a spear or blade.
Asatru is the worship of the Aesir, as I’ve said. Of Odin, Thor, Baldr, Tyr, Frigg, Sif, etc, etc. Those considered to be gods and goddesses in Asgard. Vanaheim and the Vanir are separate from this. That Odin has Mimir’s head as a consult is separate from this. That Loki is an ambiguous presence, meant for change, and wanders from one realm to the next, seemingly belonging to three different races entirely is…somewhat separate and somewhat a part of this. Some consider him a god of the Aesir. Some consider him a Jotun living in Asgard, perhaps considered of the Aesir, through blood brotherhood with Odin, but is not actually a god. Some even consider him to have been a mortal man that earned his right to walk the halls of Asgard and the nine realms.
You can consider yourself whatever you want of the Norse religions, but Loki is going to be involved in some way. This is where the line is sometimes blurred between the two. Personally, I love both the Aesir, and the Jotnar, though I do not take the myths as complete truth. I believe in the nine virtues, etc. I consider myself Asatru, and not Rokkatru, even though both apply equally to me.
That’s really as simple as I can make it without focusing on a single mythological figure so…hopefully I answered you well enough? ;u;
— For Loki.
Cruelty, shadows, and delusion,
There is sickness and denial and a clenching of the heart.
But in this destruction you still find worship,
For there is so much hidden between the tendrils of your fire.
Hail to you,
Loki, Loptr.
Hail, to you.
I was just lying in bed, in the dark, just trying to fall asleep whilst looking at the ceiling. Something I never do, because I just like to curl on my side and hug a pillow.
And as I was on the cusp of sleep, as what usually happens, I jolted back awake. The only difference was that immediately following this, there was a surge of a darker shadow that reached up from my bed and curved along the ceiling, and as it passed over me, I felt a fear so genuine I teared up. It felt like a rush though me.
Just been thinking about this memory for the last couple days. Happened about three weeks ago.
Not usually one to put much stock in the ‘I heard them, they spoke to me, they showed me, bla bla, etc etc.’ But that experience was unlike anything I’ve had in my life and I just can’t shake it.
Wisdom, song, and magicks alike!
Bring us the fire bringer!
Bring us the chaos weaver!
Bring us your brother!
Hail Odin!
Hail your wonderful,
Your terrible,
Gifts!
Hail, and revel!
— Original invocation for Odin and kinda for Loki.
